Minutes County Executive Committee
May 5,
2007
I. Call for
Quorum – County Chair Carla Vela announced a quorum was PRESENT. She called the meeting to order at 7:15 p.m.
II. Approve
Agenda – There was a motion and second to approve the agenda as presented. Motion carried.
III. Opening
Ceremonies – Bob Miller led all present in the Pledge of Allegiance followed by
a moment of silence. The Chair
recognized the elected officials in attendance and candidates including Mr. Tom
Schieffer, candidate for Governor and the guest
speaker for the evening.
IV. Approval
of April 2009 Minutes: There was a
motion and second to approve the April minutes as presented. Motion carried.
V. Reports
A. The Chair reported that the Texas
County Chairs will meet in San Antonio,
24-26, 2009, at El Tropicano Hotel and she is making
the arrangements for that event. She
also reported that she has arranged with prospective judicial candidates to ensure
that we have democratic candidates across the board.
B. Treasurer – Dwayne Adams gave the
financial report. He mentioned that the
party needs money and urged the Precinct Chairs to join the BCDP Partnership by
donating $10.00 a month. Additionally, he will write a letter to all judicial
officials requesting that they join the Partnership for $120.00 a year. He will personally follow up to collect the
money. Report was approved.
C.
Committees
1. Budget and
Finance – Frank McDonald – No report.
2.
Campaign
– Ian Straus reported on the Strategy session “Blue Grassroots 2010.” All Precinct
Chairs as well other county democrats will be invited to attend. Volunteers are needed to update convention attendees lists. Reported
was accepted.
3.
Rules
– Bob Bretz reported the update on the new rule for future CEC Meetings. The recommendation will be that meetings be
held quarterly in lieu of monthly. If
meeting date falls on a holiday or on election day,
the day will be changed. Notice will be
put on the website and voted at the June meeting. Report was accepted.
4. Community Outreach – Ruth Stewart
reported that contributions were delivered to the Warrior & Family Support
Center, Wednesday, April 8, 2009. Brochures for newly naturalized citizens are
distributed at ceremonies monthly and sometimes twice a month. Information contained on these brochures
includes web and phone resources for voting.
The Bexar County Democratic Party and Bexar County Democratic Women are
listed on the back of brochure. Report
was accepted.
5.
Precinct Chair Recruitment – Mike Camann reported
that we have 267 Precinct Chairs. The
recruitment continues. He made a motion
that in an effort to achieve a quorum, we make public CEC meeting attendance by
publishing it on the party website.
There was some objection but the motion passed.
6.
Fund Raising/Special Events – A recommendation was
made by the Steering committee that a fundraiser be held as soon as possible to
raise funds for the Democratic Party.
The Chair invited those interested in helping contact Lila Aguirre. Rebecca Martinez offered a trip to Las Vegas that can be
auctioned at the event and Manny Santana volunteered to provide a band. After much discussion, it was recommended
that the Special Events committee meet and report on recommendations to the CEC
at the June meeting.
VI. Unfinished
Business
A. Proposed Rule Amendments – Mark
Camann presented amendments
concerning schedule of events that must occur at regular CEC
Meetings in May, June, January, March and April. Amendment passed.
B. Bob Bretz presented proposed
rules changes for meeting schedules.
VII. New
Business
A. The Chair announced that the Seniors and Veterans committees will cease operation.
B.
Primary Committee – Chair announced that a Primary Committee will be formed and
that volunteers are needed.
C. Mark Camann presented the Precinct Chair
committee recommendation to post CEC meeting attendance on the website. A discussion followed and it was approved by
roll call vote.
VIII. Announcements
Castro Event, Saturday, May 2
Celena Peña’s
husband is running for the San Antonio Independent School District.
There being no further
business the meeting was adjourned.
